Inside the EC5: A Six-Stage Water Conditioning Cycle
The RainSoft EC5 water conditioner uses a six-stage regeneration cycle to maintain consistent performance. Each stage works together to clean and recharge the resin bed so the system can continue conditioning your home's water supply.
Step 1: Downflow Conditioning
Hard water moves downward through the resin bed, where calcium and magnesium ions are captured and exchanged for sodium ions. This is the primary stage where water is conditioned before entering your home.
Step 2: Upflow Backwash
Water flows upward through the resin bed to loosen and flush away sediment, iron particles, and debris collected during operation. This helps maintain proper flow through the system.
Step 3: Downflow Brining
A brine solution passes through the resin bed to restore sodium ions and prepare the system for the next conditioning cycle. The EC5 uses filtered water to create the brine solution, helping protect the resin bed during regeneration.
Step 4: Slow Downflow Brine Rinse
A controlled rinse removes remaining brine from the resin bed, clearing the system before the final rinse stages.
Step 5: Fast Downflow Rinse
A faster rinse flushes away any remaining brine and prepares the resin bed for normal operation.
Step 6: Treated Brine Makeup Refill
The system refills the brine tank with treated water to prepare for the next regeneration cycle. Built-in monitoring features help track system performance and provide alerts if attention is needed.
