How the EC4 Conditions Water: A Six-Step Process
Many standard water softeners regenerate on a preset schedule. The EC4 uses an electronic metering valve that monitors actual water usage and starts regeneration only when the system needs it. This approach helps the system operate efficiently while reducing wasted salt and water.
The six-step conditioning cycle restores the resin bed so the EC4 can continue providing conditioned water throughout your home.
Downflow Conditioning
Hard water flows downward through the resin bed, where calcium and magnesium minerals are captured and replaced with sodium ions.
Upflow Backwash
Water moves upward through the resin bed to loosen and remove sediment and debris collected during conditioning.
Downflow Brining
A brine solution flows through the resin bed, recharging the resin by removing captured hardness minerals.
Slow Downflow Brine Rinse
A controlled rinse moves remaining brine and hardness minerals through the resin bed.
Fast Downflow Rinse
A faster rinse clears remaining brine from the system and prepares the resin bed for continued use.
Treated Brine Makeup Refill
The brine tank refills with treated water, preparing the system for the next regeneration cycle before returning to conditioning mode.
